After the end of the cold war, deepening globalization metamorphosised the role of religion into power for the survival of daily life in contrast to the rigid nationstate and institutions. The contributors in this volume are based in mainland Southeast Asian states and its periphery regions, whose anthropological field research focuses on the three in-betweenness of practical religion; national boundary, sacred-secular boundary, and ethno-identity. Their collaboration successfully depicts social dynamism of in-betweenness as the countervailing between convention and practice in Southeast Asian societies.
