GUIDELINES

 

Kyoto Working Papers on Area Studies is a series published jointly by the three area studies institutions on Kyoto University campus: the Graduate School for Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS); the Center for African Area Studies (CAAS);  and, Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS).

Eligibility for submission

  1. Faculty, young scholars and graduate students affiliated with any of the above three institutions are welcome to submit your manuscripts. Graduate students must obtain permission from their advisers to submit your manuscript.
  2. Any contents related to research activities within these three institutions are acceptable, including external submissions. For external submissions, please contact us through a member of these three institutions.
  3. Format should follow our basic formats and templates (see separate guideline). However, each author is responsible for the contents, editing and budget in each production.

Language
Any language is acceptable.  In case of languages other than English, please include an English language abstract of about 200 words.

Where to submit
Please prepare your paper according to the template, and send 1) a submission form filled out, 2) a completed paper according to the template (either word-file for PDF file ) and submit to the following address.

Printing and editing
On receiving your submission, we will attach a series number, cover page with title, and send it back to you. Printing and the final production of the PDF file should be done by yourself.  We can also attach an ISBN number upon request. (If you plan to submit the paper to a journal, please check whether a working paper with an ISBN can be submitted to the specific journal you plan for. We can supply you with some information regarding printing if necessary. )

Submitting final printed paper and uploading on web
It is up to the author how many copies s/he will print. However, we ask that you submit 10 copies and a PDF file to us upon completion. The 10 copies will be preserved in appropriate libraries and the PDF file will be uploaded on web with the series number, author name(s), title, year and month of publication on the CSEAS webpage, and a link will be made in ASAFAS and CAAS webpages. Your paper will also be uploaded on the Kyoto University repository KURENAI. However, if you wish not to have your paper uploaded, please indicate so on the submission form. Furthermore, if at any later date you wish to have a paper withdrawn from the web, please let us know.

Copyright
The copyrights of all working papers are held by Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS); the Graduate School for Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS); and the Center for African Area Studies (CAAS) and displayed inside cover. However, if you wish to submit a paper based on the same material to a journal or any form of publication, it is up to the author, following the relevant regulations of the publication.
